The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Monday held a demonstration against the Kejriwal government's “betrayal” to the slum dwellers and not allotting vacant houses to them.
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that the Aam Aadmi Party Government came to power six years back and destroyed thousands of slums but did not shift even a single slum dweller in a permanent house.
He said that most of the street vendors also live in slums and the Central Government directed the Delhi government to provide stalls to them but the Delhi government did not provide a single stall.
“The Kejriwal government also did not allow the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to be implemented. The Chief Minister Kejriwal had promised that Ayushman Bharat Scheme would be implemented in Delhi so that people can get the health benefit of free treatment of up to 5 lakh. However, the government did not implement these public welfare schemes because their thinking is very petty,” he said.
Bidhuri said that the Central Government provided the land on which more than 50,000 houses are lying vacant to Delhi Government for the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers and under this 50 per cent of the cost of construction of those houses was also borne by the Central Government.
BJP senior leader Kuljeet Singh Chahal said that we would not let the Delhi government do injustice to the slum dwellers. “We will fulfill the responsibility that we have taken for shifting slum dwellers to vacant houses. The BJP is the only party dedicated to the poor and needy and is always committed to working in the interests of those poor and needy,” he added.
State General Secretary Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Ravinder Gupta, State vice-president Yogita Singh, State Vice President and MLA Mohan Singh Bisht, Abhay Verma, MLA Om Prakash Sharma, Jitender Mahajan, Anil Bajpai, State Secretary Vikram Bidhuri, State media head Ashok Goel Devraha and many slum dwellers participated in the demonstration.
