BJP MP demands reunification of municipal bodies

Member of Parliament (MP) from East Delhi and BJP leader Maheish Girri has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the unification of three municipal bodies. Girri raised this issue during “Zero Hour” in the lok Sabah on Wednesday and contended that the national Capital was suffering due to three separate municipal bodies, and demanded their reunification.

Girri said while the MCD cleaned the sewers before the monsoon, but those managed by the Delhi Government were yet to be cleaned. This has resulted in flooding of several areas, he alleged.

Speaking to The Pioneer, the MP said that Delhi has not elected the AAP Government to become the sufferer of vector-borne diseases. He has also demanded imposition of President’s Rule in the national Capital over the issue.

“Before 2012, Delhi never faced such a situation. The AAP is not willing to release funds. The other agencies like — Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) — do not take the responsibilities to clean the sewages.” “The Delhi is on the path of destruction. The MCD cleans the gutters, but the main nallas are not being cleaned,” Girri alleged.

He claimed that unlike other MCDs, East Delhi was largely unorganised which also hurt the overall revenue generation. This, he noted, also led to constant strikes by the MCD workers, leading to Delhi becoming a “house of garbage”
