BJP involved in Rs 84 cr MCD waste scam: AAP

Staff Reporter

The AAP on Saturday accused the BJP for allegedly committing a scam of Rs 84 crore in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the name of garbage collection and also demanded investigation in the matter.

In February 2020, BJP-ruled civic body had awarded a tender to a private company to collect garbage at the Bhalswa Landfill at the rate of Rs 3,250 per metric tonne.

As per the new rules the company was supposed to install Global Positioning System (GPS) in its trucks, which it refused, leading to cancellation of the tender. “Another company was awarded the tender at the rate of just Rs 400 per metric tonne. The previous company had already processed 3 lac tonnes of garbage, implying there has been a scam of Rs 84 crores.

When the tender could have been awarded at Rs 400 per metric tonne, then why was it awarded at the rate of Rs 3,250 in the first instance? This scam couldn’t have been possible without the collusion of the BJP and its leaders. The Aam Aadmi Party demands a thorough investigation into the matter.” AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak said at a press conference on Saturday. “The AAP has learnt through various documentary proofs that there has been a scam of around 84 crores under the grab of collecting waste in the BJP ruled-MCD. This scam has taken place at the Bhalswa landfill.

There is a distinct method for disposing of the waste from the Bhalwa garbage mountain,” he said. “The BJP ruled MCD issued a tender for this garbage mountain in February 2020 at a rate of Rs 3250 per metric tonne. For a few days, the company operated properly.  A new rule was implemented, and the trucks were required to install GPS, but the company refused to comply. As a result, that company's tender was cancelled. The company had processed 3 lakh metric tonnes of waste off the mountain by that point.” Pathak said. “However, the same tender was given to another company but only for 400 rupees per metric tonne.

This means that there has been a scam of Rs 84 crore. The same work that was given for 3250 rupees in February 2020 and is now given for 400 rupees, how is it possible? This level of corruption wouldn’t have been possible without the involvement of the BJP and its leaders.

The Aam Aadmi Party demands a probe in matter. BJP leaders should be questioned and an FIR should be registered against them. It should be brought to light as to how they pulled off a scam of 84 crore rupees.” Pathak concluded.
