BJP, Cong launch fresh salvos at Kejriwal over air pollution

Staff Reporter

As Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is busy campaigning in Gujarat, the BJP and the Congress on Saturday launched a fresh attack on worsening air pollution in the national Capital.

BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga put up a poster outside the BJP headquarters in Delhi, comparing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to Adolf Hitler.

"Kejriwal is the second ruler who converted his city into a gas chamber, Hitler was first," the poster  said while the Delhi Congress launched a campaign ‘Pollution on, Kejriwal gone’ at ITO.

Lashing out at the AAP over the pollution, Delhi BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana alleged that despite repeated reminders by BJP, the Kejriwal Government did not take any concrete steps regarding pollution and today the situation is such that Chief Minister Kejriwal has made Delhi a gas chamber.

“The AQI level of air in Delhi has crossed 550 and such air is not only poisonous but also deadly especially for children,” he said.

While informing about the RTI, Khurana said that it has revealed that the Kejriwal government bought Bio-decomposer solution from Pusa Institute for Rs.3.79 lakh within two years and then spent Rs.64.12 lakh for spraying it, whereas only tractors and tents were used on rent for spraying.

“Rs 23.27 crore was spent on advertising by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to make his face shine.  This information has come through a reply to an RTI by the state government and not said by the party,” Khurana said. Khurana asked the Kejriwal government if the bio-decomposer solution has proved to be equally effective in Delhi, why it is not being implemented in Punjab as there has been an increase in the cases of stubble burning there by 34 percent?  Delhi Congress has launched “Pollution On, Kejriwal Gone” campaign at the ITO.

Speaking at the campaign, Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar said that Kejriwal had been away from Delhi for 53 days in the past year for his political aggrandizement and civic infrastructure in the Capital has collapsed due to his negligence.

Kumar said that for the past 8 years, Kejriwal only made hollow promises without taking any concrete steps to controlling air pollution.

“Congress Government had made Delhi green and clean, and air pollution stemmed with introduction of CNG fuel in public transport, but BJP and AAP found time only for making charges and counter-charges without addressing the Capital’s issues,” Kumar added.
