Around 200 residents of Bisada village in Dadri on Sunday again defied the prohibitory order and held a panchayat in the village 20 days after an ultimatum to the district police for action against Akhlaq’s family. The residents of Bisada discussed that the district administration as well as the State Government is not ready to help them and so they have decided to keep faith in courts and will be awaiting judgment on July 6.
The panchayat was held for three hours in the same temple from which a priest had made an announcement urging residents to turn up at Akhlaq’s home. However, local members of the BJP and the Shiv Sena kept distance from the panchayat this time. The kin of the accused in the September 2015 Akhlaq lynching case earlier demanded to register an FIR against Akhlaq’s family over the forensic report that stated that the meat found in his house was that of “cow or its progeny”. They had given 20 days to the district administration for it.
BJP leader Sanjay Rana — whose son Vishal is a prime accused in the infamous lynching case — said that they have lost their faith on Gautam Budh Nagar district administration as well as the Uttar Pradesh Government in this case. We have decided to depend on the court judgment. “The residents and kin of accused family have decided to accept the court judgment irrespective of whether it will be in our favour or not. The decision of next panchayat will be taken after court judgment. Now, the residents of have no expectation from the State to intervene for fair probe.” Sanjay Rana told The Pioneer. The district administration has stepped-up the security in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
