A 12-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a man inside her school in South-West Delhi’s Dwarka area on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, identified as Sachin Kumar, a book binder by profession, was later arrested by police. Enraged parents protested outside the school alleging that their daughters were sexually assaulted by a man who apparently supplied books to the school.
Protesters claimed that the accused has on an earlier occasion misbehaved with two other girls and asked school authorities to investigate the matter. South-West district police officials said they were verifying the allegations.
In her complaint, the Class IV student has said she and two of her friends were leaving school when she tripped running down stairs. She said a man standing nearby came running and helped her up during which he had touched her inappropriately.
Realising his intentions, she managed to free herself and run to the staffroom where she narrated the incident to her class teacher who promised to look into the matter. She did not reveal the matter to her parents initially but on Tuesday evening she told her mother who immediately informed the other parents. On Wednesday morning, the parents reached school demanding an explanation from the school principal.
“We were told that the act was committed by an outsider and the school authorities could not give us any reason why no action was taken by them,” said one of the protesters.
Police said the accused owns a binding business in the area and was known to the transport manager of the school. He was arrested on Thursday evening. Police are investigating whether Sachin had abused any other student earlier and have asked for CCTV footage from the school.
