In order to bridge the learning gap of students that was widened by the Covid-19 pandemic, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia held a meeting with the Commissioner of North, South, East Delhi Municipal Corporations and Secretary of New Delhi Municipal Council on Wednesday, to implement ‘Mission Buniyaad’ in the corporation schools.

In the meeting, Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister, said that due to the pandemic and the consequent closure of schools, a huge gap in the learning of children has emerged in the last two years. “After the schools reopen in the new session, it has become very important to undertake all necessary steps to bridge this gap. The Directorate of Education (DoE) and the Municipal schools will have to work together to bridge this learning gap among children,” said Sisodia.“Implementation of Mission Buniyaad should be undertaken in mission mode. All the municipal commissioners should meet with the principals of their schools and review the preparedness for implementing Mission Buniyaad,” said Sisodia, during the meeting.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has prepared student learning material and teacher manuals under Mission Buniyaad. It includes a math workbook of 25 worksheets, a book of 26 stories to improve children's reading-listening-speaking and writing skills.

Additionally, regarding the planned admission from MCD feeder schools to DoE schools every year, Sisodia said that it has often been noticed that students take admissions in other schools or leave Delhi and go to their native places.

“Their name is present in the database of MCD feeder schools and their school leaving certificate is also issued by many feeder schools during admission.

Due to this, there is a difference between the total number of enrollment and the actual number of admission under planned admission,” said Sisodia.

He said that this error should be removed by the MCD feeder schools in time to optimally utilise the resources.
