Former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti broke down during questioning by investigators, who on Wednesday took him to his Dwarka residence where he came face to face with his wife in connection with the dowry harassment and attempt to murder case, according to officials.
“He broke down on Wednesday morning during interrogation when asked about the incident involving his dog Don. He was kept under the police lock up of Dwarka Sector 23 police station,” said a police officer.
Earlier, police said Bharti was not cooperating with them during the probe. “Now he shows a little cooperation, though he still denies the charges leveled by his wife on him,” said the officer adding, Bharti also did not disclosing the names of the persons who helped him in his hiding.
Police said they will seek inclusion of section 212 of the IPC in the FIR to trace all those who helped Bharti to evade police arrest. “This is an important part of the case as a lot of time and resources were wasted in tracing Bharti who kept on absconding despite cancellation of his bail from the court,” added the officer.
Also, police said they would seek extension of his remand on Thursday for further investigation.
Besides, police have identified one Bani Singh who allegedly provided shelter to Bharti during his escape. Interestingly, Bani Singh has criminal record and is wanted in various cases in Delhi.
The sleuths will take him to Uttar Pradesh’s Agra and Mathura where he reportedly stayed during evading his arrest. “We want to identify all those who harboured him during his hide and seek game with the police. He can be taken to places like Agra and Mathura where he hid to evade arrest,” added the officer.
The MlA from Malviya Nagar was booked under various sections of the IPC.
On Tuesday, the investigating officials had said they were also trying to take the dental imprints of Bharti’s dog Don to match it with the bite marks on his wife’s body. Bharti’s wife has accused him of unleashing Don on her when she was pregnant.
