In a move that can hurt thousands of bank account holders at public sector banks, employee unions have decided to go on a two-day nationwide strike from Monday to press for wage revision. Banks, including country’s largest lender State Bank of India, have informed customers in advance about the likely inconvenience they could face due to the strike.
The unions said that they are compelled to go on a strike as the offer made by bank management is not in line with the rising inflation. The wage revision of public sector bank employees has been due since November 2012.
All India State Bank Officers’ Federation and All India State Bank of India Staff Federation, being part of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which is an umbrella organisation of nine bank employees and officers unions, will also participate in the strike.
