Bank accused of throwing security rules to the wind

While it comes as an applause for the Delhi Police for working out the biggest heist within 12 hours, it also raises questions as to why Rs22.5 crore were kept in the cash van when as per security guidelines, only up to Rs10 crore can be transported through it.

Police have told that as per set instructions by the Delhi Police, banks are always asked to load cash only up to Rs10 crore in the cash vans for security reasons and exceeding that limit is a violation of the guideline. Though it is alleged that police have seized a receipt of Rs10 crore, which Axis bank has provided to ensure that the bank did not disobey any rules on the very first place, some sources have revealed that the remaining value of Rs12.5 crore belongs to some of its officials  who were trying to evade income tax authorities.

Also considering the case, there were only two people, an accused driver and an armed guard present in the van. Five people should have been there inside the van, including a custodian as well. According to sources, the custodian was left behind at the Axis bank in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area at the time of loading the cash.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police is planning to file a case against the private security firm SIS that is said to have violated its guidelines for carrying more cash than permitted and less number of persons onboard, said sources.
