Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s “interference” in Delhi University Students’ Union elections has not gone well with the Delhi University, which is going to seek “legal opinion” to take action against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) student’s wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS).
Kejriwal, along with Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia and other AAP leaders appeared at the evening music concert “DU Rocks” at the Talkatora statium on Tuesday, appealing the students to vote for CYSS candidates.
While the four CYSS candidates Hitanshia of Satyawati College, Garima Rana, Kuldeep Bidhuri and Rahul Raj Aryan were introduced to the crowd with great enthusiasm. The newly launched student organisation might have to bear the brunt of these celebrations.
“We are taking legal opinion as we have got a complaint in writing against the CYSS and others who have violated the code of conduct and lyngdoh Committee recommendations. It is really unfortunate that despite repeated requests they (AAP leaders) indulged into such kind of activities,” DU’s Chief Election Officier, DS Rawat told the Pioneer.
Rawat had sent official communiqué to all the major political parties, including Congress and BJP, to cooperate with the university administration for holding a “fair and transparent” election. Rawat said the AAP’ s support to CYSS through such a concert has “distressed” them.
“Today is the last day of filing of nominations by the candidates for the upcoming elections. Once it is done we will have names of all the contestants. I heard about the concert through media but I cannot take action till proper legal opinion was available,” Rawat added. The DUSU polls are scheduled for September 11.
