Delhi Police is probing the role of Associate Vice President (AVP) Quality (Airport Development) of GMR group for allegedly defrauding the company and the AVP has been booked under Section 408 (criminal breach of trust) of IPC.

The complaint was made by the General Manager (Human Resource) department) of GMR group Suchitra Kumar alleging that their AVP Sambhaji Padwal has duped the group to a tune of `84 lakh as they have given him charge to manage the new infrastructure development at the airport. However, after the scrutiny, it came to fore that he was constantly granting official projects to a particular company owned by his relatives for supplying raw material and allegedly supplied material at an inflated cost which translated into heavy losses to the GMR Group.

Police sources said the complaint was made by the Kumar in January and after taking legal opinion, a case was registered at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) police station under Section 408 of Indian Penal Code in the last week. “The complainant Kumar, in her plaint, told police that around a year ago, Padwal posted as AVP of Quality (Airport Development) was asked to look into developing matter and was given charge to man the new infrastructure development at the airport,” police sources added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) IGI Airport, MI Haider confirmed the registration of the FIR. “We have registered the FIR and investigation is on,” he added. The complainant Kumar claimed that during the scrutiny by their department, Padwal was constantly giving official projects to one company for raw materials at an inflated cost and further investigation revealed he supplied raw material for official projects from the company owned by his relatives following which GMR Group incurred losses of around `84 lakh.

“They have conducted their investigation and after verifying all the papers, they approached the police about the matter. After registering the case, police started their investigation and they asked the HR department of GMR to give them official documents related to the case investigation,” police sources said.
