As the model code of conduct is likely to be enforced in February before lok Sabha elections, Noida and Greater Noida Authority has accelerated its ambitious Metro project connecting two cities. The authorities have decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the DMRC at the earliest so they could avoid the delay in work. Authorities have also approached UP Government to seek nod.

According to senior officials, a meeting has been conducted recently between the authorities and DMRC to chalk out the plan and more meetings are likely to be held this month for reaching an agreement.

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), a newly-formed company, will undertake the construction work of 30 km Metro line between Noida’s Sector 37 to Bodaki in Greater Noida. “Once the model code of conduct will come into effect, we will have to wait for a long time to start construction work on Metro tracks which may cause unnecessary delay in the project. Once we sign the MoU, we will start allotting tenders as we have to complete the work before the end of year 2017,” said a senior official.

The Greater Noida Authority chairman has declared the authorities will lay the foundation stone of the Metro link in the beginning of the year. “My resolution for 2014 is that the two authorities — Noida and Greater Noida — will start work for a 30 km long Metro line as soon as possible. We will soon decide the date of the stone laying ceremony,” Rama Raman, chairman of three authorities of Gautam Buddh Nagar, said while talking to reporters recently.

The link from Noida to Greater Noida has been approved by the UP Cabinet at `5,000 crore. “The Centre will approve the project very soon. We have communicated legal as well as planning issues to the Union Urban Development Ministry. Once formation of NMRC gets the green nod, we will start work,” said the chairman.
