Taking suo-motu action, a 20-year-old washroom attendant who used to make videos of women inside the washroom of a restaurant in national Capital’s Connaught Place, was arrested by the New Delhi district police. The accused was in the habit of filming women furtively and then share it with others on WhatsApp. The accused identified as Vikas, a resident of Tilak bridge railway colony, was on the run since Tuesday after a woman who was using the washroom caught him red-handed while taking her videos and immediately sounded alarm and called police. When other women inside the restaurant confronted the “maniac”, the restaurant owners and workers allegedly made him flee from the spot through restaurant’s backdoor. However, the mobile which the accused allegedly used to make videos was “snatched” from him by the woman.

The woman fearing ‘public shame’ didn’t lodge a formal complaint with the police but handed over the mobile phone of the accused to the police. Subsequently police taking suo-motu cognisance of the matter lodged a formal complaint against the accused and started investigating the case. Upon investigation and scanning of the accused mobile it came to light that the accused is a repeat offender who had made similar such videos of other women using the restaurant’s rest room.  “While the mobile memory was scanned similar such videos of woman were found which indicates that the accused is a repeat offender. He had also shared such videos on WhatsApp groups. We are further investigating the matter,” said Madhur Verma the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi district.
