Sparks are likely to fly during the 'one-day special session' of the Delhi Assembly on Monday with ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, discussing the recent attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and deletion of voters from the list in South Delhi Parliamentary constituency.
Main Opposition BJP MLAs, though only four in numbers will seek to counter the ruling party over issues concerning people.
It may be recalled that a man identified as Anil Sharma, who worked in the billing section of a private company based at neighbouring Gurugram, threw chilli powder at Kejriwal outside his office in the Delhi Secretariat on November 20.
On November 22, the Delhi Cabinet decided to convene a one-day Assembly session on Monday to discuss the attack on the Chief Minister and the alleged "mass deletion" of names in voters list in the city.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had recently said the decision to convene the special session had been taken in view of the "attitude" of the Centre and the Delhi Police over the incident involving the chief minister.
AAP workers had also protested at BJP headquarters and raised slogans for the alleged apathy shown by Delhi Police and the deafening silence by the Lieutenant Governor nil Baijal. Sisodia had attacked Baijal for not speaking over the issue.
On the other hand, the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Vijender Gupta, criticised the AAP dispensation for convening the session over the issue.
"Politically motivated issues such as throwing chilly powder at the Chief Minister and the so-called deletion of lakhs of names from the voters list hardly deserve public time, attention and money.
But the Kejriwal Government is bent upon raising dust and storm on these non-existent issues," Gupta said in a statement.
Meanwhile Delhi Congress president Delhi Pradesh Ajay Maken said that Instead of discussing important issues like the life-threatening rising pollution levels in Delhi, illegal sealing drive, the spread of dengue and the worsening law and order situation in the Capital the special session is being called to discuss about the chilli power attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In a letter written to Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Sunday, Maken demanded the Speaker not to give permission to hold special sessions of the Assembly to discuss personal matters.
