School students visiting the Delhi Assembly now have a book telling the story of the building they are standing in. Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday released an illustrated booklet titled “Delhi Legislative Assembly: From the Imperial Secretariat to the Old Secretariat” in the Assembly House.
The Assembly released the booklet during an educational visit as part of its weekly Youth Outreach Programme. Through the programme, school students learn about the functioning, history, and democratic importance of the institution.
The booklet has been prepared by senior researcher Gunjan Agarwal in both Hindi and English. It presents the historical journey, architectural heritage and significance of the Assembly in a simple and visually appealing format. It traces how the premises changed from the Imperial Secretariat to the Old Secretariat. Illustrations, historical accounts, and simple language give students a glimpse of the institution’s past and its continuing relevance in Delhi’s legislative and democratic journey.
Gupta stressed the need to engage the younger generation with the country’s democratic heritage. He said such educational initiatives foster awareness, curiosity and respect for democratic institutions. He also underlined the importance of making the Assembly’s history accessible to students through engaging and informative resources. “Connecting young minds with the Assembly’s rich history is essential to nurturing an informed and responsible generation,” Gupta said.
The Assembly said that through the Youth Outreach Programme and educational publications, it continues to strengthen public engagement with its historical legacy and promote democratic awareness among the young.
