Delhi University’s maiden effort at making its entire admission process online hit roadblock on the first day of admissions as the university’s website crashed for several hours on Thursday.
“I have been trying to take the print out so that I could approach the college of my choice but I panicked as the portal got hung. From 9:30 to 12 am, many of us faced hard times due to the technical glitches. The portal was opening slowly,” said Smiriti, an aspirant from West Delhi.
The total number of approved admissions stood at 27 at Ramjas College, 20 at Indraprastha College for Women (IP), 80 in Miranda House and 43 in Kirori Mal College.
DU officials said they were aware of the issue and were looking into the problem. “There has been a problem into it. It is because of too much traffic on the website as it is the first day of admissions. IT would be sorted by tomorrow morning completely,” an official at Deans Student’s Welfare told The Pioneer.
Daulat Ram College refused to admit Kashmiri migrant students for whom the university had granted a five per cent supernumerary quote from this year. “They said NA which I thought was not applicable but after I enquired they said it’s not available,” said father of an aspirant.
Deputy Dean Student’s Welfare Gurpreet Tuteja said earlier the admission for Kashmiri migrant was centralised and colleges used to wait for the list from the university. “I think there is some confusion on that note, thus we have informed and sent direction to the colleges. Kashmiri migrant admission directions are already given to them,” he added.
The highest cut-off for the academic session has been announced by Ramjas college at 99.25 per cent for BCom Honours; 98.75 for BCom and 98.5 for Economics (H). The cut-off for Hansraj College has remained unchanged across stream with Economics (H) being the highest at 98 per cent. The cut-off at Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), ranked among the best in the country for higher studies in Commerce and Economics, is 98.25 per cent for Economics (H) and 98 per cent for BCom (H).
The students have three days to take admission under the first list following which the next cut-off list will be released.
