It was the second coldest day of the season for Delhiites on Tuesday with the mercury plummeting as intermittent rains lashed the Capital. The maximum temperature was nearly eight notches above settling at 14.6°C. The MeT department has predicted similar weather conditions on Wednesday with rains expected across the city.

“January 21 was the second coldest day so far in this winter season with 14.6°C recorded at Safdarjung Airport, which was nearly 7-8 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature has remained consistently higher since January 13,” said a MeT official.

No significant fog was observed and flight operations were normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 10.2°C, three notches above the normal. The city recorded 4.8 millimeters of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Tuesday. The humidity level oscillated between 100 per cent and 93 per cent.

The situation turned worse for commuters in the morning rush hours as authorities closed four Metro stations and barricaded all major arterial roads in Central Delhi where Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was staging a dharna.

The weatherman has predicted cloudy sky with possibility of light rain or thundershower in the Capital on Wednesday.
