Apeejay student hangs self after soured live-in relations

Staff Reporter

A 20-year-old third-year BTech student from Apeejay Institute of Technology, Knowledge Park-I, allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night following his relationship with his live-in partner allegedly turning sour. Akash Yadav was found hanging by a towel from a ceiling fan in his room in NRI city apartments. No suicide note was recovered from the flat.

Neighbours informed police on Friday morning when Akash did not respond to knocks on his door. Police broke down the door to his flat and found him hanging. The victim was taken to a hospital nearby but was declared dead on arrival. His roommate from the same college was not in the flat when Akash took the extreme step.

Akash hails from Moradabad and was in a live-in relationship. He had been depressed lately about the turn his relationship had taken and that, police say, could be a probable reason for his suicide.

“We have sent the body for inquest, the report of which is awaited. We have detained his live-in girlfriend for questioning. We have sealed his flat, confiscated his laptop. We have notified college authorities as well,” said Brajesh Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Greater Noida.
