The Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of NCT of Delhi, organised latest edition of its ‘Angan Ka Milan’ initiative at the NDMC Community Centre, Babar Road, New Delhi, on Thursday, highlighting contributions of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers in strengthening nutrition, preschool education and early childhood care.

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma attended as Chief Guest, along with WCD Secretary Dr Rashmi Singh, WCD Director G. Sudhakar, and New Delhi District Magistrate Sunny Singh. Around 100 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers participated. A major attraction was an exhibition of nutritious recipes prepared using Shree Anna (millets), showcasing nutritional value and promoting healthy eating habits.

Anganwadi functionaries also displayed innovative teaching-learning materials (TLMs) developed using locally available resources to make preschool education more interactive and engaging.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Singh presented the Department’s six-dimensional vision for transforming Anganwadi Centres into comprehensive community spaces. The vision encompasses Poshan (nutrition and health), Palna (childcare and crèche services), Padhai (preschool education), Parivar (family engagement), Pratibhagita (community participation) and Pragati (social and economic empowerment).

Appreciating the efforts of Anganwadi functionaries, Minister Parvesh Verma assured support for providing public spaces in Government buildings, including PWD and Delhi Jal Board premises, for Anganwadi Centres.

Special kits containing bags, uniforms, insulated water bottles, caps, first-aid pouches and umbrellas were also distributed among workers and helpers in recognition of their dedicated service.

The programme reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to strengthening Anganwadi services and recognising the frontline workers who play a vital role in community welfare.
