Breaking barriers and stereotyping of women, the theme of Anarchia event at the lady Shri Ram College three-day fest stole the show on Sunday. The thought provoking idea of showcasing dolls in different shapes, sizes and colours grabbed everyone’s attention. Students from 14 Delhi University colleges participated in the event showing the beauty of women lies in their strength and not physical outlook.

“At lSR, we have never allowed a fashion show as we strictly do not endorse any stereotypes and fashion shows define a certain type of beauty that objectifies women. Thus to give students a chance of creatively breaking barriers and stereotypes of beauty, Anarchia was organised,” lSR Media Coordinator, Kanica K Ahuja told The Pioneer.

Participants used medium of acting, dancing and audio visuals to present their concepts of breaking gender stereotypes.  Props were used to underline stereotypes of physically and visually challenged.

“The participants were free to use any form of performance oriented expression to challenge varied stereotypes existing within the domains of gender, profession, disabilities, clothing, fashion,” added Ahuja who also teaches Psychology at lady Shri Ram College.

Hansraj College that presented creative acts to break the conventional ways of looking at male, female relationships and the stigmas of widowhood won the prize.

“I was very impressed by the concept. It was overwhelming to see the younger generation do what we couldn’t. All the teams did their best,” said Megha Dhillon, another professor.
