Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday distributed laptops to students and unveiled Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) projects worth Rs 3,750 crore on his visit to Ghaziabad. While distributing laptops the Chief Minister said that the device could help uplift the deprived sections and enable them to compete with the elites.

“The Samajwadi Party is working efficiently to fulfil its manifesto word by word to help the downtrodden classes of the society and this programme is another initiative to fulfill the commitments made by the party leaders during election about a year ago,” he said.

The Chief Minister personally presented 50 laptops to students, the rest were mechanised through administrative machinery. Out of total 8,074 laptops 5,598 were distributed to Ghaziabad students while 2,476 laptops were distributed to the Gautam Budh Nagar students.

On Monday, Yadav also announced that the Ghaziabad city would get three new police stations — one at Khoda Colony and two police stations in loni. He further said that the Khoda Colony, a slum developed at the Delhi border, would be given the status of a Nagar Panchayat after it fulfills the required parameters. The loni town would also get the status of a tehsil after the administration finds all eligibility parameters being fulfilled.

The Chief Minister unveiled in total, 37 GDA projects worth Rs 3,750 crore. A scheme of 5,000 houses for low Income Group (lIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society was also launched on this occasion.

During Chief Minister's speech at Kamla Nehru Nagar, the Ghaziabad police had a hard time struggling to manage the protesters. To control the protest the Ghaziabad police detained 150 BJP workers at CGO Complex and lodged them in the Kavi Nagar police station where they continued their dharna inside the police station. Taking preventive measures, the police had already picked up some of Congress leaders on June 2 from their residence including former Minister Satish Sharma and Om Prakash Sharma, former MP Ramesh Chand Tomar, and former MlA Surendra Kumar Muni.

The major projects that the Chief Minister launched include an elevated road from UP Gate to Northern Peripheral Expressway, a 21-kilometer road on Public Participation model up to loni town, a link road with ROB between National Highway 58 and National Highway 24 and a bridge on Hindon River from Siddharth Vihar to Kinaoni in Indirapuram.
