With Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls just round the corner, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) on Friday accused the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists of “physically assaulting” one of its nominees at the university’s PGDAV College. The ABVP has refuted the allegations, saying it is “mere stunt to come in the media” as the elections were near.

“AISA campaign team consisting of DUSU nominee Aditya Vaibhav Srivastava, Yashashwani Mahanty and other student activists were campaigning in PGDAV College when they were attacked and brutally beaten up by ABVP and female comrades were harassed sexually,” read a statement by AISA.

Yashashwini Mohanty, in her complaint to police, said, “Around 11 am, first they abused me. When I resisted they tried to grope me, surrounded me and tried to physically assault me. After lots of resistance, when my peers came to help, they tried to kick me. Then they clicked my photos or made videos from their smart phone and said teri shakal bahut achhi hai (your face is so good)”.
