lord Mukul Paul Taneja, 50, resident of Hauz Khas, was arrested from a South Delhi market on the complaint of Nisha Karavadra. The high-profile management guru, son of a former director of AIIMS, and author was nabbed by Delhi Police on Sunday for duping an UK-based NRI woman of Rs 10.50 lakh by selling her a hypothecated high-end car claiming there was no outstanding loan against the car.

“The accused was caught fraudulently selling a Renault Duster SUV which had a VIP number, UK-07-AX-0999. The same was financed by Punjab National Bank. The accused had illegally registered several luxurious cars, including this in RTO (Dehradun office) without making the entry of ‘Hire Purchase loan’ on their Registration Certificates (RCs) which were already financed by the banks,” said Ravinder Singh Yadav, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime.

The victim had reportedly come in contact with the accused after seeing an advertisement in a daily newspaper. According to the police, she agreed to purchase the said car after the assurance given by the accused that the registration certificate would be transferred in her name within a week. “After purchasing the car, the victim asked the accused for providing RC after obtaining it from RTO Dehradun as promised but Taneja threatened her of dire consequences in view of his very high political connections in India,” he added.

Reports further inform that the victim made inquiries from the concerned RTO office at Dehradun and it was revealed that there was a bank loan of Rs 9.99 lakh against the said vehicle from PNB, thus, its ownership cannot be transferred in her name. After this she filed a complaint through her local MP in England. The Punjab National Bank has also filed a complaint against the accused for criminal breach of trust for not returning the loan of Rs 9.99 lakh.

During the course of investigation, a unique modus operandi came to the police’s notice. It was revealed that Taneja belonged to high society and had been conferred lordship by the OBE for his distinguished service for the country in the field of education, said a police official.

While Taneja is well- educated and was a bright student, he also claims to have written three books, Rural Marketing and Integrated Approach, Vedanta Education True life and Analytical Approach to Management in Developing Countries.

Taneja has several luxurious cars at his house, most of which are financed by different banks and have been registered by the accused in his name. Apart from this, presently, he has outstanding loans from different banks of India against these cars and he has a loan of Rs 70 lakh on his residential bungalow.
