A senior Delhi Police cop chased a car invovled in road accident for nearly three kilometres and successfully managed to arrest the errant driver who previously was allegedly involved in a rape case and negligent driving.
Amit Kaushik, ACP, Ambedkar Nagar, was on night patrolling duty and while crossing the BRT corridor, he saw a White Swift hitting a motorcycle and running away around 4.20 am, said police on Thursday.
Kaushik, in his police Gypsy, accompanied by his driver and operator, started following the car that went towards Chirag Delhi, then turned towards outer Ring Road and instead of taking the Nehru Place flyover, took lala lajpat Rai Marg and was speeding away, police said.
Kaushik managed to intercept the driver after a 3km long chase at Kailash Colony metro station around 4.25 am, said a senior police officer. “The car had four occupants, the accused driver Satish Bhardwaj (34), two of his relatives and a friend identified as Rajkumar, Manish and Vinod. Satish was overspeeding under the influence of alcohol. He knew that he was being chased by a police vehicle but continued riding his vehicle,” said the officer. A case under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) IPC and 185 (Driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) Motorvehicles Act has been registered against Satish who was arrested, said a senior police officer.
