A 22-year-old Delhi University student from Afghanistan allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented flat in North West Delhi’s Model Town on Sunday morning. Investigators have recovered a two-page suicide note composed in Urdu. He was disconsolate after being snubbed by the woman he loved.

Police said Abdul Hamid Mir was a third-year student of computer science at Hansraj College. He had been staying at a rented pad in Old Gupta colony in Model Town for the past three months. “His landlord found him strung by a bedsheet from the ceiling fan in his room on Sunday at 11 am,” a senior police officer said.

“He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for inquest. His family has been intimated as well,” the officer added. The suicide note also has a love sonnet written by Mir along with a confession stating he’d be ending his life for having failed in love. “Perhaps he had wanted the missive delivered to his beloved,” the officer surmised.
