Patient dies at AIIMS

Thirty-three-year-old Punita Jha, hospitalised at AIIMS, died of dengue on Sunday night, leaving behind four children. According to one of the relatives of the deceased, Akhleshwar, despite being taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Ambedkar Hospital and AIIMS, the patient could not be treated. A resident of Kirari Village and a native of Bihar’s Motihari, Punita was admitted at AIIMS, ICU for the past few days, said Akhleshwar, adding that she died due to negligence.

“At first, we took her to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, but due to overcrowded emergency, we moved her to the Ambedkar Hospital. Due to her critical condition, doctors there immediately admitted her. Dengue was confirmed as her platelet count was 37,000," said the deceased brother-in law.

"When her conditions became more critical, doctor treating her asked us to take her to bigger hospitals such as the AIIMS and the lNJP," added Akhleshwar. On September 8, Punita was taken to the AIIMS where she was admitted in the ICU.  "She was recovering well till Saturday night. We all were hoping for good. I don't understand what happened in the night. Doctors suddenly called us early in the morning at 6 am and informed us about her death," said Akhleshwar. Punita's two daughters are in Motihari.
