The 30-year-old woman, who was attacked by two assailants on a motorcycle in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area, is currently undergoing treatment. The doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) claimed that the woman may lose her right eyesight due to severe acid burns. A statement issued by AIIMS said, “On examination the patient had chemical injury in the right eye and the right side of the face. The eye injury was classified as grade IV which denotes the highest degree of severity.”

The patient was examined in RP Centre on Tuesday around 11.30 pm. AIIMS officials said, “Patient gave an alleged history of vitriolage with a liquid around 9 am with injuries to the right side of face and the right eye. Appropriate first aid measures were given on the spot and the patient was admitted in RP Centre for further treatment. She is being treated under the care of Dr Tushar Agarwal, Additional Professor of Ophthalmology and Cornea expert at AIIMS. On Wednesday morning, the patient showed slight improvement in the condition of the eye. Her condition is being closely monitored and she continues to be under expert and best care. Her facial skin injuries are being treated by Dr Maneesh Singhal, Plastic Surgeon from Department of Surgery, AIIMS.”

Meanwhile, over 12 police teams have been formed to nab the accused. The CCTV footage clearly shows the pillion rider attacking the victim and the driver robbing her bag even though the police officers believe that the bag was stolen to make it look like the work of snatchers. The bag of the victim was recovered from West Delhi’s Khayala area and her mobile phone was recovered from Yamuna Vihar area. Police are now trying to ascertain the last active location of the mobile phone to ascertain if the attackers had used it or may be travelled around to dodge the police. Police officers are questioning the friends and family members of the victim as well. Sources revealed that the victim is scheduled to get married in a month’s time. Members of the chemical association also met the top brass of the Delhi Police asking them to implement the strict guidelines of the SC with regard to the sale of acid openly.
