With plethora of promises to woe voters, the RSS backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has released its manifesto for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections due on September 12. The manifesto of the right-wing student organisation has accorded prominence to the issue of women safety and security. Against the backdrop of the fact that rivals, particularly the Left student organisations portray ABVP as an “anti-women”, ABVP is leaving no stone unturned in dispelling the notion.
The manifesto contains a pledge for ensuring measures for women safety, security and gender sensitisation. It reiterated its demand of making the north campus of Delhi University a compact campus, organisation of “self-defense” training camps in various colleges and university campus. Establishment of “girls activity centre”, timely elections of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in each college, gender sensitisation camps and programmes at college level , installation of sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators in every college among other demands.
Keeping national interest first, the ABVP working on the moto of “Bharat first” has demanded effective implementation of “Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat” programme, having the “wall of Heroes” of martyrs in all the colleges, NSS, Yoga and NCC should be offered as elective subject and opportunities for social internship to understand Bharat.
Other promises in the manifesto pertains to remedial classes for SC, ST, OBC and economically weaker section of student, increase in scholarship for SC, ST students at UG and PG levels, effective placement cell, centralized hostel application form, one course one fee for all PG courses, healthy and subsidized food for students in all colleges and departments, free education for trans-genders etc.
The ABVP has pitched Ankiv Baisoya for president, Shakti Singh for vice-president, Sudhir for secretary, and Jyoti Chaudhary for joint secretary for the DUSU elections.
