Despite the internal unrest within the Aam Aadmi Party in the last couple of weeks and the subsequent stings coming out in public domain, the supporters have not yet given up on the party.
With the AAP Government completing a month in office, the party has received donations of over Rs1 crore since it won the Delhi Assembly elections. This is a major boost for the party as they were struggling to gather donations till the last minute before the polls.
After losing badly in the general polls, the party had received donations amounting to a little over Rs80 lakh. However, a close look at the aaptrends.com throws up interesting figures. While the post-Assembly poll figure is a summation of funds received between February 8 and March 7, 2015, the post-lS polls figure takes into account the money donated between May 17 and June 16, 2014.
A senior office bearer of the party who was actively involved in fundraising said, “After the lok Sabha debacle, people had lost faith in our party. But after the stupendous victory in the Assembly polls, they are wholeheartedly supporting us.”
However, donations that had hit the peak just before the Assembly election came down considerably after its completion. The party had received a whopping Rs12 crore and a little over Rs5 crore in January and February respectively during the campaign period. The party had launched several initiatives including the ‘I Fund Honest Party’ challenge in line with the Ice Bucket Challenge and also hosted a fundraising tea parties.
