AAP joins battle for justice for Pavitra

Staff Reporter

Seeking to give political overtones to the suicide of Pavitra Bhardwaj following sexual harassment, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday joined the protest seeking justice for her. The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) and Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) staged a dharna outside police headquarters in the Capital on Thursday morning that was later joined by Kejriwal and his supporters.

Pressing for the immediate arrest of the principal of BR Ambedkar College, who has been accused by Pavitra for sexual harassment, and swift action by the police in the case, the protestors also met the Police Commissioner. Members from DUTA, DUSU and Delhi University (DU) and Delhi University Karmachari Union (DUKU) slammed police for not taking prompt action that could have saved the life of Pavitra. Kejriwal also demanded an inquiry into the matter and said if the principal continued to roam freely, he could influence investigation into the case.
