Emboldened by the overwhelming support from the youth population of the city, the debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now planning to float a youth wing to contest elections at the university level.
By broadening its scope of political ambitions, the party plans to reach out to each and every segment of the population, while it has its eye set on the upcoming General Elections. Party sources informed that the youth wing will not only shakeup the ailing politics at the student level but will also broaden connect with the city’s young population, which has been a crucial factor in party sweeping a mammoth 28 seats in the Assembly elections.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party it seems wants to leave no stone unturned to ride on the anti-establishment and anti-traditional political party wave that has hit not just the national Capital but its spreading its wings across the country. Realising that the youth is a crucial segment to tap, the party members are now seriously contemplating to form a youth wing that can reach out to the young faces. “The thrust will be to contest the Delhi University elections, as 62 colleges are part of the prestigious university. The efforts will be to empower the youth to weed out not just the malignant corruption existing at the university level but also work for the student welfare, which is least on the agenda of the existing parties,” said a party source.
Sources added that the party’s confidence to turn towards the youth wing emanates from the awe-inspiring support it is receiving from the young section of the city’s population. Over 5,000 enthusiastic young members are getting themselves associated as volunteers with the party termed as novice by the political giants. “At present the University elections replicate the political situation at the state level, with no credible alternative in front of the students. Caught between the two major parties — Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the DU elections have just become a game for power and not for student welfare. A fresh party is need of the hour to weed out the rampant corruption and offer an alternative to the students to elect their leaders,” he added.
Apart from this, the party wants to fortify its presence with social media has been an important factor in party’s meteoric rise to success and routing Congress from most of its traditional seats and offering a tough competition to the saffron party. “Strengthening the virtual presence is an amazing way to not just connect with the young but will people from across the world. Pledging transparency in its approach the party plans to add constituency-wise pages on its website, not just giving the profile and details of the MlA of the area but also other crucial information such as telephone numbers of the important officials of the area such as District Commissioner that can come handy for the public,” he added.
