The sting op, conducted by a news portal and aired on a TV channel on Thursday, evoked mixed response from the aam aadmi. Residents of resettlements colonies, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claims to have a strong support base, seemed least bothered about the involvement of their leaders in the alleged benami fund raising method. However, the upper class and well-heeled were not surprised either. They said it was bound to happen since AAP was in no way different to other parties.

People from Seemapuri, Rohtas Nagar, Gokulpuri, Sundar Nagari and Babarpur area termed this exposé as a political conspiracy since major political parties were scared owing to the growing popularity of AAP and hence, were embroiled in sullying the party’s profile. “The party is enjoying good support from the lower and lower-middle class people, who have no interest in any kind of videos, forget about sting operations. These people will continue to support Arvind Kejriwal in the coming elections. The operation must have been planted by the opposing parties,” said Mange Ram, a resident of Rohtas Nagar. The AAP’s candidate Mukesh Hooda from the seat also figured in the video. However, others said they upheld such sting operations as they exposed the truth.

Anish Shrivastava, a first-time voter from Yamuna Vihar area, said he was supporting AAP for its clean image, but the sting on its leaders had totally disappointed the youth in Delhi, who had extended their support to the party. “The AAP is similar to other parties who want to make money through politics. There is a huge difference in preaching and practicing,” said Anish.
