lambasting the AAP Government to increase the salary of MlAs, BJP MlA Vijendra Gupta has said that this AAP Government would be first in the country which set up a committee to increase their salary and allowance.
“The AAP Government has failed to make appropriate arrangement for dengue patients in Delhi. It has no funds for payment of salary to safai karamcharis, pension of elderly, physically handicapped and other deprived sections. But when it comes to the matter of MlAs’ salary, it is more than liberal. It is ready to follow so-called best international practices as far as salary hike is concerned,” Gupta said.
“It is the party which came into power with ‘NO’ to paraphernalia of any kind associated with power viz allowances, cars, bungalows, security,… big offices has now left behind every conceivable association with common man. It has let itself loose to unique indulgences so far not enjoyed by any legislature anywhere in the country. It has no shame in calling the revised pay and allowances as “in tune with the best international practices”. The party which believed in “Swaraj” and championed grass root democracy and humble practices now talks of best international practices in the matter MlAs pay and allowances. Where is Swaraj nowIJ ,” Gupta said.
Delhi Congress leaders also lambasted the move of the AAP Government saying that Kejriwal won the Assembly elections on the plank of aam aadmi but after coming to power they have become khas admi.
Questioning the Kejriwal Government, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said that what kind of good governance Kejriwal wants to give to the people of Delhi. “Kejriwal should explain about proposed hike of MlAs’ salary and what is its need,” Makan said adding it is irony that people are dying of dengue and this Government is busy in hike of their MlAs’ salary.
Maken further stated that this is the first that the Government has appointed an independent committee of experts to decide the salary and other perks. So that no one could be blamed for the recommendations, Maken said.
later the Delhi Government’s spokesperson clarified that an independent committee of experts has made certain recommendations when the Government will receive the report it will take a reasoned decision after going through each recommendation and reasons behind it carefully.
“The Government will look at which recommendations to accept and which to reject,” he said.
