AAP blames BJP for failing to control pollution level in city

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Central Government for its failure in controlling increasing level of pollution and daily traffic congestion in the national Capital.

The BJP ruled centre has doubled the metro fares twice within the gap of six months, said AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, adding that the AAP had opposed this move tooth and nail because we knew this would hit the masses and cause decline in metro ridership and thereby increase congestion and pollution.

The AAP leader further said that all metro facilities in the world are subsidised and kept in line with the affordability and wages of the masses. “A simple comparison of the highest roundtrip fare in the city metro with minimum fare in major cities tells how DMRC has the most unaffordable fares in the world — twice as unaffordable as the next one (Singapore) and three times unaffordable when compared to some of the most extensive metro systems in the world — Beijing, New York City and Paris, he said.

Bharadwaj further said that the DMRC should issue concessional metro passes alike the Delhi transport Corporations (DTC) for students, senior citizens and people belong to economically weaker sections.
