With a total of 171 dengue cases reported so far this season, about 52 of them were reported last week as per the data released by the Municipal Corporation on Monday. So far, national Capital has recorded 81 dengue cases while 90 recoreded from neighbouring States.
With 26 of the vector-borne disease cases recorded in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) last week, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) recorded six dengue cases each. A total of 63,688 houses have been handed notice where breeding of mosquitoes were found, said MCD official.
As part of its preventive measure against the deadly disease, NMC had last month launched a drive and sought to popularise the use of a specially-made cooler and plant sentry plant (Agave americana).
Also, the Union Health Ministry in June had decided that dengue patients hailing from towns in the NCR seeking treatment in Delhi hospitals will be registered separately this year so that they are not clubbed with local patients.
last year, the city saw a staggering 15,867 dengue cases, the worst in 20 years with the disease claiming at least 60 lives, as per municipal reports. In 1996, a severe outbreak of dengue had occurred in Delhi wherein about 10,252 cases and 423 deaths were reported.
