A 51-year-old man, suspected to be mentally challenged was beaten to death by a juvenile while locals who had gathered stood by as mute spectators.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Naseem A senior police officer said, “The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Naseem was standing outside his house. It was then that a youth playing nearby started teasing Naseem. When Naseem asked him to not bother him, the youth along with another juvenile came, held Naseem, picked a big stone and hit at Naseem's head.

The police officer said, “As per the allegations levelled by Naseem's family, who lived with his three brothers and his mother at the Radhe Shyam Park extension area, the locals had gathered. Even when the youth and his friend fled, the locals did not chase them and also did not offer any help to Naseem. On seeing a crowd outside Naseem's house, his nephew Sayeed Naqvi Raza came and took Naseem to the Hedgewar hospital where he was declared brought dead,”

The family claimed that the locals instead of offering help to Naseem, made his videos.

“On the basis of the statement of Naseem's nephew, we have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Jagatpuri police station and have apprehended the juvenile and sent him to the juvenile home,” added the officer.

The officer said that the juvenile was identified based on the CCTV cameras installed in the neighbourhood.
