After new vehicles, the transport department has now initiated the procedure to affix High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on old vehicles. To cater to the staggering load of existing vehicles, 50 new centres will be opened in different parts of the national Capital.

Out of these upcoming centres, 12 centres have been made operational for people to get HSRP affixed on their vehicles. The vendor, Rosemerta Technologies, was handed over with the responsibility to affix HSRP on vehicles said that till now it has affixed tamper proof plates on 7 lakh vehicles in the city.

At present, 14 centres are functioning at the various RTOs in Delhi to affix HSRP on the newly purchased vehicles. But now the department has started the installation of tamper proof plates on the existing vehicles in the city for which 50 new centres will be opened. According to sources at the transport department, the procedure to affix HSRP on old vehicles was first started at the Burari centre. Apart from this, 12 new centres have been opened at various locations, including Mahipalpur, Dwarka, Badarpur, Raja Garden, Tri Nagar, Shahdara, Madangir, Peeragarhi, Wazirpur, Mayur Vihar, Vasant Kunj and Okhla. “Of these, seven centres have been notified by the department and the notification for five new centres will be issued soon,” said a Delhi Government official.

To keep pace with the Supreme Court’s deadlines, the department has directed the vendor to start the installation of HSRP on existing vehicles as soon as possible. “To get the HSRP affixed on old vehicles, the vehicle owner will have to get the vehicle registered at the HSRP centre and the plate will be manufactured within two to seven days after the registration. The owner will then have to get it affixed on his/her car at the centre,” he added.

Sources said that on an average 2,500 HSRP are being affixed per day and till now 7 lakh HSRPs have been affixed in the national Capital on new vehicles. With the process being initiated for the existing vehicles, over 75 lakh vehicle owners in the city will be able to get tamper proof number plates on their vehicles.
