The Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union (JNUSU) gheraoed the exit gates of the administration building on Wednesday for hours, blocking way of Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar and his colleagues, protesting against the inaction against the ABVP activists who allegedly assaulted the missing MSc student, Najeeb Ahmad.

The gherao, that started at 5 pm, continued till the paper went to the press, according to sources. While officials said it was illegal to block the exit gates, JNUSU president Mohit Pandey said, "We have not illegally confined anybody in JNU admin. All know the Proctor was outside and he freely walked into the admin. Electricity and all kinds of supplies are here. We have also sent food for all people”.

Also, the protesting students claimed that they would approach lieutenant- Governor Najeeb Jung and President of India Pranab Mukherjee who is the Chancellor of the varsity to intervene in the matter.

"We are ready to help the administration in finding Ahmad but they are not serious about it…they are not cooperating and instead of acting against the ABVP activists who attacked Ahmad, the administration is having discussions with them," JNUSU President, Mohit Pandey said in a Press conference earlier in the day.

He accused the JNU administration of having a partisan attitude. "As the Vice Chancellor has failed us, we are bound as per the procedure to approach the President for helping us find our missing student. We will also go to the l-G for help," Mohit added.

The JNUSU threatened to intensify their protest as afterwards they gheraoed the building exit gates. The JNU Teacher's Association (JNUTA has also urged the administration to pressurize the police in finding Ahmad and appealed for him to return without fear of victimisation.
