4,700 take admissions to DU colleges in 2 days

ABHINAV SINGH

More than 4,700 students have taken admissions (fee paid) in various merit-based Undergraduate (UG) courses at various colleges of Delhi University (DU) by the end of second day of admissions against the first cut-off list.

A DU official said on the second day itself more than 3,000 admissions (fee paid) took place as the DU website functioned "flawlessly" and without any "glitches".

Usually, three-day time is given after the announcement of each cut-off for taking admissions in colleges.

last year, the total number of admissions in three days after the announcement of first cut-off was nearly 2,000, i.e. less than half of the numbers of admissions that have taken place by the end of the second day against the first cut-off this year. With a day more left for admissions against the first cut-off the figures are expected to soar further.

Admissions against the first cut-off would be made till Thursday. On the very first day of admissions against first cut-off, DU UG portal witnessed minor "hiccups" due to "heavy traffic" with quite large number of aspirants visiting the DU website site simultaneously in morning hours. However, the admissions went on smoothly after some time and more than 800 admissions (fee paid) took place by the end of first day.

After the declaration of cut-offs, candidates are required to login to his/her portal and select the appropriate course and college to generate the admission application form. Thereafter, the applicants have to proceed to the college for admission with set of original documents and self-attested photocopies of documents. With Principals approving the application online the option of fee payment appears on dashboard of candidate, subsequently, the candidate shall login again and pay the admission fee online using the link available in the dashboard.

With 21 June being the last day of taking admission against the first cut-off, the students meeting the first cut-off are advised to complete their admission process. The second cut-off would be announced on June 25 and document verification, approval of admission and payment of fee would take place from June 25 to June 27. The third cut-off would be announced on June 30, the fourth on July 6 and fifth and possibly the last on July 12.

DU this year (academic session 2018-19) has planned to come up with only five cut-offs contrary to around dozen cut-offs as earlier. In its bid to keep the cut-off "realistic" the DU has provided Principals with the dashboard where they can observe each other cut-offs and alter their own cut-off accordingly to make it "realistic".
