SR

Amid mounting criticism of Delhi University for rushing through the four-year undergraduate programme, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday appeared to support the decision and hoped that it would benefit the students academically. “The four-year degree course is getting good response from the students. The innovations have opened new paths for advancement and progress of the students,” Dikshit, herself an alumnus of Delhi University, said.

She was speaking after inaugurating a job fair organised by the Delhi University Student Union in the DU campus. In her address, Dikshit described job fair as a constructive step taken by the DUSU and concentrating on the welfare of the students and working in the direction of safeguarding their interests. She further underlined the need of skill development and stated that her Government would soon open admission in its worldclass skill development institute being set up at Jaunapur in association with Government of Singapore.

It is for the first time that the students union has taken care of the future needs of the passed out students. Dikshit expressed confidence that large number of students would be able to get employment through this job fair. “The students of the Delhi University are well taken in the race of employment as it has been imparting quality education,” she said.

Speaker of Delhi Assembly Yoganand Shastri, AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes, DU Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh and DUSU president Arun Hooda were present on the occasion.
