In a horrendous case of gangrape, a 28-year-old woman was brutally raped by four brothers while she was returning home from work in Outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri area on Wednesday evening. The woman who sustained physical injuries during the assault somehow informed her sister who rushed to her help.
Police suspect that the four accused were stalking the woman and on finding her alone, they offered her a cold drink laced with sedatives and then took turns in raping her.
A senior police officer, privy to the investigation told The Pioneer, “The 28-year-old woman, who is currently living away from her husband used to work in a part time job in the Sultanpuri area and is also pursuing an educational course from a private university. The woman used to live as a tenant in the building owned by the accused. Few months ago, the woman had shifted to her mother’s house and had moved to a different area in Outer Delhi.”
“The incident happened around 5:30 pm when she was returning home from her job. Three men, who were sons of the landlord of the building where she used to formerly live, met the woman. They engaged her into a conversation and offered her a cold drink laced with sedatives. She lost consciousness after which they took to an isolated spot in Jalebi Chowk. Here, the three men, all brothers were joined by their fourth brother. They all took turns to rape her and abandoned her after committing the crime. The woman claimed that she was lucky that the accused did not take away her mobile phone,” said the police official.
“Bleeding profusely, the woman managed to make a call to her sister who came and took her to her residence. The next day, on June 8, the victim at the behest of her sister made a call to the woman helpline 181 who then took her to the Sultanpuri Police station where the police registered a case under Sections of gangrape,” added the senior police officer. Medical examination of the 28-year-old woman was conducted at the Sanjay Gandhi hospital where doctors confirmed about the brutal sexual assault.
Based on the statement of the victim, police said that they have registered a case under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Sultpuri police station.
Police further said that the four accused are absconding. No arrests have been made so far. Meanwhile, police on Friday added that they are carrying out search operations to nab the accused. Further investigation is underway.
