Delhi BJP's Jhuggi Jhopri and Unauthorised Colonies Cell organised a seminar to discuss upon betterment plans for the residents of Jhuggi Bastis and Resettlement Colonies of Delhi.

The seminar — “Har Jhuggi Ko Samman Sankalp” Sammelan was attended by around 3,000 active BJP workers. Delhi BJP Incharge Shyam Jaju gave the inaugural address while Pradesh President Manoj Tiwari made the key note address at the seminar presided by Cell Convenor Umesh Verma. Cell Incharge Anand Sahu, Councilor Sanjay Thakur also addressed the seminar where several workers presented their points.

Verma said it is important to attend to their day problems of Jhuggi dwellers but more than that we have to work to get them the respect like other residents of the city. With this objective the Cell will launch special programme to ensure respect for them.

Jaju, interacting with people, said that like his predecessor Congress Government the present Arvind Kejriwal Government treats the Jhuggi and Resettlement Colonies residents as a vote bank.

He said, “A large population of scheduled castes resides in Jhuggi bastis and they have not only been denied opportunities but also fund meant for them has been misused by Kejriwal Government.”

Jaju slamed the Delhi Government for levying utility charge of Rs 2 per entry on Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) toilets built with the funds sanctioned for free toilets by the Centre thus letting down the objective to make Delhi free of open defecation.

Tiwari said BJP treats all sections of Delhi residents as citizens unlike several other parties which segregate people into vote banks. We believe that big development plans for Delhi can be envisioned by those sitting in corridors of power but the actual executers reside in the Jhuggi & Resettlement Clusters.

“It is sad that successive state Government's since 1998 have denied benefits of development to the Jhuggi residents,” said Tiwari.
