Sold twice — once for kidnapping and secondly to be married off — a 25-year-old mentally challenged woman was finally rescued by a team of Tilak Nagar police station after she went missing in March this year. The accused have been identified as Sanjay (29) and Phoolwati (55).

“During interrogation, it was found that Phoolwati had met the 25-year-old woman on the night of March 30 in Tilak Nagar  area and convinced the victim to go with her. She handed over the kidnapped girl to one Sanjay who was previously living in the neighbourhood of Phoolwati. She got Rs 30,000 for this kidnapping from Sanjay.  Further raids conducted in Najafgarh where Phoolwati and Sanjay were arrested for trafficking.

Sanjay on interrogation disclosed that he was contacted by Sukhbir who is also a resident of his own village, to find a girl for his marriage and ready to give Rs 50,000 for this. On this, he told Phoolwati to manage a girl for marriage,” said the DCP.

Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) said, “On March 30, we had received information that a 25-year-old mentally challenged woman had gone missing. Based on the complaint, we took action. Her photographs were shared on a common forum with police in other States.

Six months later, on September 5, the young woman managed to call her father stating that she has been held hostage somewhere in Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and that she does not know the exact place.

Accordingly, a team was formed and based on the Call Detail Records, the girl was tracked in-between two villages — Samsapur and lohgarh. CDR was also obtained and analysed from which it was amply clear that the kidnapped girl was somewhere in village  Khediya. Police team was sent to Aligarh.

The raiding team contacted the Pradhan of the Khediya village. Following which, the suspicious house was raided from where kidnapped girl was rescued. Sukhbir, who had confined the girl in his house and married her against her will, left his home before police raid.
