A 22-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death while her mother was critically injured after unidentified assailants barged into their residence in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Sunday morning. The woman was sleeping along side her mother Santro (42) and her two-year old son at their residence. Her body was discovered in a semi-nude condition and cops suspect she might have been raped as well.

“Her mother is unfit for statement. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death and to determine if she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. Several teams have been formed to trace the accused,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.According to police, a PCR call was received around 6.40 on Sunday morning about a murder. The mother-daughter duo was sleeping at their house while her father and brother were sleeping in the adjacent room on the same plot.

The woman’s body was discovered lying near a tree, close to the place where her father was sleeping. Her mother was found lying inside the room where the duo was sleeping. The killers had spared the child, who was sleeping during the time of the incident.Police was informed and a team was rushed to the spot. Their heads were completely smashed. The duo was rushed to a nearby hospital where Sonia was pronounced dead on arrival while her mother’s condition is stated to be critical. She is currently in the ICU at the hospital.

“The murder weapon — perceived to be bricks — was recovered from the location. The daughter got married around four years back and was settled in Gannaur, Haryana. She came to her maternal home on Thursday due to a dispute with her in-laws,” said a police official. The house was ransacked as well and appears robbed.

The location of the plot is such that its door opens up to a vacant plot and their screams would have gone unheard. The killers also locked the door of the adjacent house from outside so as to avoid anyone rescuing them.Apparently, the house was built on a disputed property. It was bought by a local property dealer since the owner was killed and kidnapped years ago. The new owner had allowed the Sonia’s father Ram Mehar to stay their and be the care taker of the property.

He worked as a security guard at the same plot as well. Mehar’s other daughter is married to the same family as the victim’s.Police are probing all angles in the case. A case under appropriate Sections has been registered at Narela police station.
