Diwali advisory for elderly
Agewell Foundation has issued an advisory for elderly persons during Diwali and said people should take a pledge to be careful about older people within our families and also in the neighbourhood while celebrating and enjoying the festivities during Diwali. "In the changing weather the pollution levels go up and are not suitable for most people, particularly the old. The carbon levels go up with the blast of every crackers, this is not conducive for the health of older persons. The sudden noise of a blast of the crackers leads to noise pollution as well as induces confusions and disturbance in the mind of older people. This leads to sleeplessness, fatigue, irritability and ill health. Festivals are the time for over indulging in food particularly the sweets. Old people need to be careful about what and how much they eat, the advisory said. "This is the time when every elderly person needs to be careful. It is the responsibility of all family members and caregivers to ensure safe celebrations for the elderly at home," it said.
