A man in his fifties allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of an approaching metro train at the Civil lines metro station in North Delhi on Friday.

According to senior police officials, the deceased is yet to be identified and his body has been shifted to the Subzi Mandi mortuary. Meanwhile, no suicide note has been recovered from the possession of the deceased, police added.

According to police, the incident took place around 1 pm on platform number one where the man jumped in front of the approaching train, which was headed towards the Huda City Centre.

"We immediately rushed to the platform number one and found that the man was beheaded due to the impact of the coming metro," said Jitender Mani, DCP (Metro).

So far police have denied this to be a case of accident as no suicide note has been recovered from the spot and it could be clearly seen in the CCTV footage that the man jumped in front of the incoming metro and was not pushed.

Police said they are currently trying to ascertain the identity of the accused after which they will question his family and close friends to ascertain what forced him to take the extreme step. Further investigation is under way.
