Maliwal’s allegations laughable: barkha

Former DCW chief and Congress leader Barkha Shukla Singh has reacted to allegations levelled by DCW chief Swati Maliwal, saying that it was laughable that Maliwal has claimed that she is not associated with any political party as it is a well known fact she was attached to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and was also drawing a hefty salary, before being appointed as the Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women. “In fact even her husband Naveen Jaihind is an office bearer of the Haryana unit of the Aam Aadmi Party,” said Barkha in a Press statement, adding, “It is also ridiculous for her to suggest that only one case was heard during her 9-year-long tenure. The complaint handling policy of the DCW clearly lays down that all cases received in the commission will be marked to members and it is only in special or extraordinary circumstances that the Chairperson can take up the hearings of cases.”

return extra school fees to parents: gupta

leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has demanded Education Minister Manish Sisodia to direct the recognised private un-aided schools on land allotted by the DDA to return the increased fees to the parents who were compelled to shell out extra fee as demanded by these schools. “It is estimated that the schools owe the parents nearly Rs 400 crore as arbitrarily increased fee. Now the High Court judgment has paved the way for fair play in deciding the fee structure. The onus of fee regularisation lies with the Delhi Government. It should cancel recognition of a school if it fails to comply with its directions. He said that the Directorate of Education is fully competent to do so as per the High Court judgment. The judgment given has now made it clear that school cannot indulge profiteering and commercialisation,” Gupta said in a press statement on Thursday.

Artists paint wall to celebrate Delhi’s spirit

A group of artists on Friday took up brushes, splashed colours and inscribed a couplet in Urdu on a wall in North-East Delhi’s Shahdara to celebrate the city’s spirit, days after a similar attempt was thwarted allegedly by a group of right-wing vandals. The wall paint, part of #MyDilliStory project of the Delhi Government’s Art and Culture Department, was done in presence of Culture Minister Kapil Mishra, who said it was a message to those erecting “walls of hatred” between religions and communities. A translation of the couplet in Hindi — Dilli tera ujarna, aur phir ujar ke basna. Woh dil hai toone paya, saani nahi hai jiska — was written on the wall of the Delhi Jal Board office.
