Delhi Traffic Police have recorded the least number of fatal accidents in the last 10 years. In 2009, 2,325 people lost their lives in accidents but in 2014 only 1,595 died in road accidents. The Delhi Traffic Police has been making concerted efforts to prosecute people who drink and drive. Sustained action against drunken driving and enhanced jail terms was also a result of this. In 2013, 3,628 people were arrested for drunken driving and the figure rose to 6,653 in 2014 up to December 15.
