Two women were found battered to death at their residence in North Delhi's Timarpur area on Monday morning. Both the women, who are distant relatives, were found dead with their throats slit and multiple injury marks on their faces and necks.
Sources said the women, identified as Premlata (27) and Sonia (22), were found with close to 16 stab wounds on their bodies. While the body of Premlata was found on the floor of the room close to a bed, the body of Sonia was found inside the washroom. Apart from the stab wounds on the bodies of the victims, inflicted probably by screw drivers and kitchen knives, police said that the mouth of the deceased Premlata was found stuffed with a cloth.
Police sources said that in the preliminary investigation they have found that the suspect Mohit, got married to Premlata four months ago. However, all was not fine between the couple. “Premlata suspected that her husband to have illicit relations with other women. On the fateful night of the murder, the suspect is said to have been under the influence of alcohol as a half filled bottle of alcohol was seized from the crime scene,” said an investigator.
Jatin Narwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) said, “It appears that the entry to the house was friendly. The house was not ransacked. We are probing the matter from all angles.”
Police meanwhile suspect on the role of Mohit, husband of Premlata behind the gruesome double murders.
Police said that the incident was reported to them at around 10:25am from the gali number 6 of the Wazirabad village when the father of Sonia (22), Rajkumar called on her mobile phone.
As per the initial enquiry, Premlata along with her husband Mohit had come down to Delhi from Kanpur to take care of Sonia, who recently had stones removed from her gall blader.
Mohit is the son of Rajkumar's sister. Post the death of his wife, Rajkumar was living with his daughter Sonia and son Sahil (18).
Since Rajkumar and his son had to attend a family function in Uttar Pradesh, he asked Mohit to come to Delhi with his wife Premlata.living in their home in Wazirabad since September 14, Rajkumar left his daughter under the care of Mohit and his wife.
Since Sonia was to go for a check up with the doctor, Rajkumar called his daughter. When his calls went unanswered, he called on Mohit's cell phone but in vain.
After which, Rajkumar called in Rohtash, a student living above their house to go and check on Sonia. When Rohtash went there, he found the main door ajar and bodies of Premlata lying in a pool of blood near the bed. Following which, he informed Rajkumar and another neighbour who in turn informed the police.
A team of local police along with the forensics team inspected the crime scene. Apart from the bodies, a screw driver, two kitchen knives, a bottle of whiskey and two broken cell phones, of the two women were found from the crime scene. They found that blood was spattered all over the walls of the victims' room.
A senior police officer, privy to the investigation said, “Post the death of the two women, Mohit, husband of Premlata has been absconding. His mobile phone is also switched off.”
Police added that a case of murder has been registered at the Timarpur police station. The victims' bodies on the other hand have been preserved in a nearby mortuary and will be handed over to their families after the post mortem is conducted.
